Obituary

James “Jimmy” Michael Curley, a man whose heart overflowed with love, laughter, and generosity, passed away at the age of 62 after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Though his life was not always easy, he faced every challenge with resilience, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to those he loved.

Jimmy was a devoted father who raised his daughter, Jillian, alone, teaching by example what it means to love selflessly. His kindness knew no bounds—he was always willing to help others, often at the expense of his own well-being. His warmth and humor left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him. His sense of humor often knew no boundaries, but even the toughest of critics couldn’t help but laugh in his presence.

To his two granddaughters, Libby and Ellie, he was a beloved “PopPop”—their biggest fan and their fiercest protector. He spoke about them, and his daughter, with pride to anyone who would listen, sharing their stories at every opportunity.

He was also the infamous “Uncle Jimmy” to his 16 nieces and nephews, who cherished his humor, his kindness, and the special way he made each of them feel loved.

Jimmy spent the last year and a half of his life at Majestic Oaks, where he was surrounded by a community that cared deeply for him. The love and support of staff and residents alike were a testament to the impact he had on those around him.

He had a deep love for music, with an eclectic taste spanning Neil Young, Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Citizen Cope, and Jewel—his playlists as varied and soulful as he was.

An animal lover to the core, he adored his cats, who were his loyal companions over the years. His phone was always filled with pictures of them lounging on their elaborate cat condos, a reflection of the care and devotion he poured into everything and everyone he loved.

Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Jillian Als; his son-in-law, Christian Als; his two cherished grandchildren, Libby and Ellie; his three sisters, Elizabeth A. Price, Mary Jo Long, and Rosemarie Maynard, and his sister-in-law Regina Curley. He now joins his parents, Peter J. Curley and Elizabeth Fraser Curley, as well as his siblings Kathleen A. Peters, Peter J. Curley, and Christine A. Martyn, who passed before him.

Jimmy’s legacy is one of love—unwavering, boundless, and deeply felt. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to have known him.

A celebration of life will be held in April, date and details to be communicated shortly. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to BluePearl Pet Hospital.
