James J. Callaghan Jr, 84 years young of Naples Florida, passed away on September 9, 2024. Known by many as “Jim," he had recently moved from his home in West Chester, Pennsylvania where he had lived for 44 years. Born on March 20, 1940, Jim grew up in Newtown Square. He was the son of the late James Sr. and Catherine Callaghan and brother of Catherine and Maureen. Jim married Joan Patton, built a home in West Chester, and was the proud father of three children: James, John and Jennifer.
As a teenager, Jim attended Monsignor Bonner and then graduated from Marple Newtown High School in 1959. Two weeks after graduating high school, he started with Philadelphia Electric Company as an apprentice lineman. After 39 years of service, he retired from PECO Energy as a supervisor.
After his retirement, you could usually find Jim on the golf course. He was a member of Phoenixville Country Club and then Rolling Green Country Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania and worked regularly at the Vineyards Country Club in Naples. Jim enjoyed his time with friends and family, often hosting many "garage" sessions. He was especially dedicated to his volunteer time with Pennsylvania Golf Association for which he travelled the state of Pennsylvania working at tournaments, mentoring future golfers, and serving as president for a term. Jim was quite proud of his 10 hole-in-ones and a double eagle (in the golf world that’s pretty good). He proudly displayed this accomplishment on his license plate: DBLEGAL
Jim is survived by his son James III of West Chester, Pennsylvania; son John (Sue) and grandson Sean of Glen Ridge, New Jersey; and daughter Jennifer of Naples, Florida; sister Maureen Gorman (Ed) of Warminster, Pennsylvania; and many nephews and nieces.
Jim will be missed and always be remembered for the mischievous twinkle in his eye.
Services and Interment will be private.
