Jacqueline M. Clompus, 102 of Downingtown, PA passed away Wednesday February 19, 2025 at St. Martha Manor in Downingtown.
She was the wife of the late Martin Clompus.
Born February 1, 1923 in Wilmington, DE she was the daughter of the late Regina Schagrin Lange.
Jackie grew up in West Chester and graduated from West Chester High School in 1941. She married her junior high school sweetheart, Martin Clompus, and were married 76 years.
She worked as a “domestic engineer” raising four children along with numerous neighborhood kids. While her husband went off to serve in the Navy during WWII, she volunteered in the Red Cross Corps. She had a victory garden supplying vegetables and fruits when they were rationed and hard to find. One of her greatest accomplishments took place in her backyard. She helped organize swimming lessons in their pool through the Red Cross for children in Chester County for 24 years. Over 1000 children learned to swim in their pool. After 45 years of service, the Red Cross named her a charter member of the Clara Barton Honor Society - the highest honor given by the Red Cross to volunteers.
She was the first female president of the United Fund of West Chester, which later merged with other United Funds to become the United Way of Chester County. In addition, she was also active in the Kesher Israel synagogue in West Chester, serving as President of Sisterhood and Hadassah.
She loved cooking and made the best brisket for family feasts during the Jewish holidays.
Jackie is survived by her daughter, Susan Clompus Rucci and her son, Richard J. Clompus, 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Martin Clompus, her daughter, Carole Brittingham and her son, David Clompus.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Graveside Service on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 1 pm at Haym Salomon Memorial Park 200 Moores Road Malvern PA 19355.
