Hugh Estberg, 95 of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 19, 2024.
He was the loving husband of 72 years of Roberta Shirley Bowker.
Born September 15, 1928, in Yonkers, NY, he was the son of the late Hugo Estberg and the late Dorothy Silver.
Hugh was a 1951 graduate of the business school of Syracuse University. He earned his MBA from New York University in 1963. He worked in various executive positions at Reichhold Chemicals in White Plains, NY and then formed his own corporation BE Chemicals until his retirement. He remained a faithful fan of the Syracuse Orange throughout.
He joined the Army at the conclusion of World War II and served as Sergeant in the United States Army where he was the rifle squad leader of the 32nd Infantry Regiment in Korea 1946-47.
He was a member and Trustee of the North Yonkers Community Church. He also served as President of the Twin Lakes Improvement Association in Elizaville, NY.
Hugh was very creative and enjoyed wood carving and building furniture in his basement wood shop. He was also an enthusiastic model train railroader.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Stephen (Karen) Estberg, daughter, Karen (Tim) McCurty, daughter, Arlene Estberg; and grandchildren, Maegan, Matthew (Sara) and Patrick (fiancée Gabrielle Fluri) Estberg, Emily (Tim) Sylvester, Alex and John Begg.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Estberg.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 North Church St. West Chester, PA 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com on Saturday February 3, 2024 from 2-2:45pm followed by his funeral service at 3pm. Interment will be private at a later date.
