Howard James Hunter, 88 of West Chester, PA passed away Monday April 28, 2025 at home.
He was the husband of Roberta L. Hunter (Fisher).
Born March 26, 1937 in Tyrone, PA he was the son of the late Howard James Hunter Sr. and the late Clara McFarland Hunter.
Jim grew up in Tyrone, PA and graduated from Tyrone High School and Shippensburg University where he was a 4-year letterman and starter at the quarterback position. Before being granted his B.S. degree in 1964, Jim had also been elected co-captain of the football team and made catcher on the baseball team.
He was a marine having served in Korea, Japan and Okinawa. He served as a Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant in the Weapons Company. As a football player in the service, he was selected "Most Valuable Player" and 1st Team Quarterback in the All-Pacific Area Football Team.
Jim worked as a Regional Sales Manager for Hoffman LaRoche pharmaceutical company and retired after 40 years.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in West Chester PA.
Jim enjoyed reading, working in the yard and most importantly spending time with his three grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Brandon Hunter and Megan Hunter Clark; grandchildren, Hunter, Hadley and Quinn Clark; siblings, William Hunter, Raymond Hunter and Judy Harris.
Jim was preceded in death by his sisters Joan Peters and Rebecca Loose.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Monday, May 5, 2025 from 10:00 am - 11:15 am at Calvary Lutheran Church 730 South New Street West Chester, PA 19382, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:30 am.
Interment will be in Washington Crossing National Cemetery Newtown PA on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 9:00 am
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tunnel To Towers or St. Jude.
