In Loving Memory of Helen Marie Clark
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen Marie Byrd Clark. Her journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to her family and friends. Marie passed away surrounded by family on November 4, 2023 at the age of 93 at her assisted living apartment in West Chester, PA.
Marie was born on February 19, 1930, the loving daughter of Cosby Roscoe and Naomi Byrd. She was one of ten siblings, with seven brothers and two sisters. Marie grew up on a farm in Dunn, NC and later attended and graduated from East Carolina University.
Marie was a devoted mother to her three sons Jeffrey, Mitchell and Kenneth, and a loving grandmother to her five grandchildren Olivia, Victoria, Alexa, Violet, and Kenny. She embraced her daughters-in-law Robin, Amanda and Jena as if they were her own. Marie's relationship with her late husband, Kenneth Clark, was one of enduring love, commitment and partnership.
For a quarter of a century, Marie shared her passion for grammar and literature as a high school English teacher. Her influence reached countless students who found inspiration in her classroom.
Marie had a deep love for travel and experienced life in interesting places, living for two years in Brazil and one year in Maastricht, Netherlands. These adventures expanded her horizons and enriched her life in immeasurable ways. Marie was an avid card player, finding joy in the games of bridge and mahjong. She would often gather with friends for lively games and conversation. Gospel music held a special place in her heart, providing solace and inspiration during both her joyful and challenging times. She found her spiritual home at the Exton Community Baptist Church, where she attended for over 50 years, fostering strong connections and a deep-rooted faith.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 9:15 am - 10:00 am at Exton Community Baptist Church 114 E. Swedesford Rd. Exton, PA 19341, followed by her Memorial Service at 10:00 am.
Interment will be in Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, PA.
