Harry Vincent Flynn, Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully at his home of 48 years on May 24, 2026, in Romansville, Pennsylvania. Born on May 28, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Harry lived a life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and community.
Harry graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School with the Class of 1960 and pursued further education at Pierce Business School and LaSalle University. His professional journey began as a computer operator for General Electric and Gulf Oil. While employed at Gulf Oil he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Louise Sullivan at the Erie Social Club in Philadelphia, they were married on May 7, 1966 and began a family. He went on to switch his career path to a more sales-oriented one, working as a school uniform salesman with his brother Edward for a time. He enjoyed the human interaction enough that he wound up becoming a salesman for a nationwide school fundraising company. After learning the ropes and knowing he could do it better, he borrowed some money from his parents partnered with his brother Raymond and they started Flynn Brothers, Incorporated. Together they served the fundraising needs of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and surrounding communities for over three decades. Harry’s innovation and entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Flynn Fundraising Incorporated, where he continued the mission of Flynn Brothers alongside his three sons.
As a non-combat wartime veteran, Harry served in the Army and Pennsylvania National Guard during the Vietnam era. Although his unit did not deploy overseas, they specialized in domestic crowd control. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant during his service and started a family.
Harry was a devoted Catholic who actively supported parochial schools in Philadelphia and nearby areas. He worked closely with the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, assisting with their fundraising needs. In the summers he helped their community by transferring the belongings of the Sisters of I.H.M. between schools when reassigned and contributed to annual Principal gatherings in Avalon, New Jersey. His faith was central to his life as he raised his children and grandchildren within its teachings.
In life and retirement, Harry enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought joy to both him and those around him. He loved reading, swimming, cooking, working around the house, summers in Avalon, NJ, vacationing with family and friends, spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren and doting on his beloved wife Betty.
Harry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Louise (Sullivan); sons, Timothy John Flynn and his fiancé Sue Shaner, Daniel Flynn and his spouse Marisa Giunta and Michael Vincent Flynn; sister, Sarah Anne Flynn Ezokas; grandchildren, Isabel Xandra, Angelina Lora and Caelan Joseph Flynn; dozens of nieces and nephews and his beloved brothers and sisters in-law along with countless cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harry Vincent Flynn Sr. and Anne Marie Flynn (Ahern); sisters, Barbara Flynn Toomey, Susan Flynn, Mary Lou Flynn and brothers, Edward J. Flynn and Raymond Flynn.
May Harry’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him as they reflect on a life well-lived in service to others.
