Gretchen Van Tassel Obituary

In Loving Memory of Gretchen Van Tassel

Gretchen, a devoted mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and beloved grandmother, gracefully rode into the sunset of her life on Saturday May 6, 2023. She leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and an unwavering zest for life. Gretchen was a remarkable woman whose passion for horses, music, antiquities, the love of the water, and embracing every precious moment enriched the lives of those around her.

Born on June 28, 1967 in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, Gretchen was an Alumni of Westtown School in Chester County, graduated from the Philadelphia School of Performing Arts, and attended Penn State University. Her radiant smile could light up the darkest room, and her caring nature was a source of comfort to all who knew her. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel valued and loved, creating a welcoming atmosphere wherever she went.

Gretchen was an accomplished equestrian who found solace and joy in the company of her horses. Many cherished memories were created as she embarked on horseback adventures, forging a deep bond with these majestic animals and all of the connections she made within that world.

Antiquing was another passion that ignited Gretchen's spirit. She possessed an impeccable eye for finding hidden treasures in the most unexpected places. Her enthusiasm for thrift stores and antique markets was infectious, and she would spend countless hours joyfully rummaging through racks and shelves, discovering unique and meaningful items that would find their way into her home and everyone else's.

Above all, Gretchen had an extraordinary ability to appreciate and embrace the simple joys of life. She treasured every moment spent with her family and friends, sharing her angelic laughter and love during gatherings and celebrations. Her unconventional humor, quick wit, kindness, and unconditional love will forever resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.

In the tapestry of our lives, Gretchen wove vibrant threads of love, laughter, and compassion. Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void, but her memory will forever be a beacon of light in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace, forever galloping across the open fields of heaven, knowing she made a profound difference in the lives she touched.

Gretchen Van Tassel is survived by her beloved Daughter, Gwendolyn Van Tassel McCloskey, Son-in-Law, Brandon Michael Binkley, Grand Daughter, Seraphina Eve Binkley, Niece, Jesse Van Tassel, Sister, Ruth Van Tassel Baumann, and Brother, Joseph H. Van Tassel III who were blessed to have experienced the joy and warmth of their sister’s embrace. Her memory will also be carried on by her cherished soul companion Chiquita the Chihuahua.

As we gather to celebrate the remarkable life of Gretchen, let us remember her as the embodiment of love, joy, and resilience. May we carry forward her legacy of embracing every moment, finding beauty in the simplest of things, and cherishing the bonds of family and friendship. Though she may be physically gone, her spirit will forever dance on the wings of the wind, guiding and inspiring us as we navigate life's journey.
