Geraldyne "Jerry" Hampton Obituary

Geraldyne (Jerry) Ann Stivers Hampton born September 18th, 1926 in Cleveland, TN. died on May 8th, 2020, in West Chester, PA. at the age of 93.

Jerry was the only daughter of Leota Still Horner and Randall Stivers of Cleveland TN, and Stepfather Garnett Horner.

Jerry as a young child sang and tap danced on the radio. She was a vivacious young woman and was elected Bradley Band Queen her senior year in High School.  Enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans for pre-med, she left school to help care for her father when he fell ill from pancreatic cancer; he passed away shortly thereafter.

Jerry married Robert (Bob) Hampton in 1947 (who passed in 2005).  They bounced from Cleveland TN to Germany, finally landing in Bethesda MD for 28 years.  When Bob retired from Government Service in 1978, they moved to West Chester PA. They supported many charities and Jerry served on the local board of the Florence Crittenden Homes in DC.

Jerry loved going to the beach, reading and needlepoint.  She was a big football fan, supporting the University of TN and her local professional teams.  Her love of antiques and glass lead to her and Bob’s passion of collecting American Cut Glass and being part of the American Cut Glass Association in retirement.  They traveled the country amassing a beautiful collection of American Cut Glass and furniture that they proudly displayed and shared with their many friends and cut glass aficionados. They also spent countless hours in Corning NY researching and helping the Association publish manufacturer catalogs.

She was known for her quick wit, stories and humor hanging with her fellow retirees and the attending staff there at Wellington. As her active social life wound down the last couple of years, she enjoyed calls and visits from her children and grandchildren and hearing all about their sports, school and travel.

Jerry is survived by her daughter Adrienne of Los Angeles CA, her son Jeff and his wife Annie of West Chester PA. Grandson’s Zeke Hindle, his wife Ashley, Wyatt and Travis Hampton.  Niece Melanie Hampton of Nashville TN and nephew Dave Hampton of Daytona FL.

A private interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Caring Hospice, 400 Commerce Dr., Fort Washington, PA 19034.
