Obituary

George J. Frederick (“Jeff”/ “Freddie Power”), 72 years old of West Chester, Pennsylvania, passed away on January 27, 2026.

Born March 23,1953 in Wilmington, Delaware, he was the son of the late George Weldon Frederick and Helen Benson Douglass, who currently resides in Wilmington, Delaware.

In his early years, Jeff attended Woodbury Heights Elementary school in New Jersey, where the family lived. The family later moved to Montgomery Woods in Hockessin, Delaware. Jeff attended and graduated from Alexis I duPont, where he participated in Varsity sports, including being elected Co-captain of the wrestling team, placing 3rd in the States in his senior year. Jeff also enjoyed four years of football, playing in the position of cornerback as well as being a member of the golf team.

After high school, Jeff attended college at the University of Delaware, as well as Florida Tech.

With his passion being golf, Jeff also played Junior Golf at Hercules Country Club in addition to being a member of the high school golf team. It is no surprise that his career later included being the Assistant Golf Professional at Hercules, (subsequently known as Delaware National Golf Course), and then the Head Professional at Scotland Run Golf Club in New Jersey, where he also excelled as the Club’s Teaching Professional. What Jeff enjoyed most was encouraging his students and watching them become better golfers.

Jeff’s favorite memories were the relationships that were created with all of his golfing buddies throughout the years. Many great stories continue to be shared and associated with those years. As noted by his fellow golfers, “it was a proud moment to be on the winning team for The Freddie Cup”!

In retirement, Jeff enjoyed providing home improvement services to a senior community in New Jersey, where his craft was very much appreciated. He was known to treat his clients with respect and fairness and built many lasting relationships from this experience.

Jeff is survived by his mother, Helen Douglass, brother, Lyle (Deidre) nephews Jesse (Amanda), Ryan (Danielle) and Zachary (Miranda) and loving grandnieces and nephews, Althea, Haven, Mina, Weldon and Levon Frederick, cousins and many friends.
