George Elmer Pease, Jr. Obituary

George Elmer Pease Jr., 79 of West Chester, PA passed away Sunday February 21, 2021 at Paoli Hospital.

Born December 8, 1941 in Bremerton, WA he was the son of the late George Elmer Pease, Sr. and the late Edith Elizabeth Martz Pease.

George attended the University of Washington where he received both a Bachelor and Master of Mechanical Engineering.  As an undergraduate, he was a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity.

George was a professional engineer. Amongst his many accomplishments, he worked for Boeing where he holds a patent for the antilock brakes on the 747 Aircraft. He then began a long tenure at DuPont.  He retired as the head of Engineering for the Fibers Division. In early years, he led the transformation to automated digital control systems as well as being a lead safety engineering consultant at the Savannah River Plant. He also led the integration of Siemens products into the automated controls of DuPont which was a worldwide endeavor and afforded him the opportunity to travel throughout Europe.

George loved running and participated in numerous marathons throughout his life including the grueling Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. George enjoyed camping and RVing and took his sons, Geoff and Greg, on many trips around the country. He would later participate in many Boy Scout camping and hiking trips with his son, Ted. He was an avid sailor and preferred being on the water to anywhere else.  He especially loved sailing with his sons Geoff, Greg and Ted - all of whom have become skilled sailors themselves. He spent every Thursday night from spring into fall racing his beloved boat, the Lily B, named after his daughter, at Havre de Grace Yacht Club in Maryland, most recently serving as Commodore. One did not just sail with Dad, however, he always made it known that he was the captain.  He had a habit of enjoying a Sam Adams beer and fresh shrimp after most races.  George took up skiing in his 50s, a passion he passed down to his children, Ted and Elizabeth. He became quite proficient and continued to ski up until his passing.

George was also a craftsman level woodworker and spent many hours in his workshop building furniture including a cradle, an entertainment center, hutch, and beds and bookcases for his children. At the time of his passing, he was mid-project with his son-in-law, David.

Most of all, he loved his eight grandchildren of which he was extremely proud and talked about them often. His house was covered in their pictures and he enjoyed traveling to visit his family across the country.

His is survived by his sons, Geoffrey E. Pease (Allison) of Bothell, WA, Gregory D. Pease (Michelle) of Andover, KS, Theodore G. Pease (Diana) of San Diego, CA and his daughter M. Elizabeth Pease (David Huddleston) of Wyndmoor, PA; his eight grandchildren, Konrad, Nathaniel, Garrick, Jakob, Tanner, Amalie, Isabella and Madelyn, and his brother, Donald J. Pease.
