George G. Ruoss, 86 of West Chester, died Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Chester County Hospital in West Chester.

He was the husband of Marie Cook Ruoss with whom he shared 54 years of marriage prior to her death in 2011.

Born January 9, 1929 in West Chester, he was the son of the late Vernon T. Ruoss and the late Frances M. Ruoss.

George was a graduate of Kennett High School.

He served in the Army Motor Pool and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War from 1951- 1953. 

Before his marriage, he worked at a garage his father owned.  George also worked at Knox’s Garage in West Chester for many years as a Mechanic and as a Road Machinery Mechanic at Road Machinery in Lionville, Pa

He would spend many hours watching wrestling and NASCAR car racing. George was an avid dirt track racing fan. He loved attending his grandson George’s Little League games.

George was a lifetime member of both the DAV and VFW and was also a member of the American Legion.  He volunteered many hours at the Southeastern Veteran’s Center in Spring City and at Bryn Mawr Rehab in Malvern.

George was a lifetime member of Fame, Longwood and Kennett Square Fire Companies.  He was also a member of Good Fellowship Ambulance.

George is survived by his two daughters, Lynn M. Ruoss (husband Russell T. Crawford, Jr.) of Clayton, NJ and Gail E. Anderson of West Chester; beloved grandchildren, George Tyler Anderson, John Russell Crawford and Tracey Lynn Crawford.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by his siblings, Vernon C. Ruoss and Doris M. Pierce

Relatives and Friends are invited to his Funeral Service, 10 am Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 North Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380; 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Friday, April 17, 2015 and again from 9-10am on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the funeral home.

Interment will be held at Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery in West Chester.
