George B. Glackin, Jr. peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.

Married in 1954 to the love of his life, he was the husband of the late Doris Davis-Glackin for 68 years.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on November 25, 1932, he was the son of George B. Glackin and Naomi Mattson Glackin.

George is survived by children, George B. Glackin, III (Bart) and daughter-in-law Allison Haack Glackin and Elisabeth Glackin Bradley and son-in-law John Paul Bradley; grandchildren, Kyle Davis Glackin (Melina) and Abigail Leigh Glackin (Josh); great-grandson James Davis Glackin and sister Rebecca Glackin Sharp.

He was preceded in death by siblings Anna Glackin Kansak and John Mattson Glackin.

After graduating from Wilmington High School in 1950, George worked in a number of jobs while attending college. He ran a service station at night, read gas and electric meters during the day, worked as an apprentice carpenter and served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, during the Korean conflict. He returned to the University of Delaware in 1955 and graduated in 1957.

George began his 35-year employment with the DuPont Company in Wilmington Delaware in 1957. He served in various financial positions in Corporate Finance, Fabrics and Finishes, Information Systems, and International Finance. George served as Finance Director of DuPont’s subsidiary in The Netherlands from 1967 to 1969 and as European Business Analysis Director in Geneva Switzerland from 1969 to 1971. He became Comptroller for the Fabrics and Finishes businesses after returning to the United States in 1971, and later was Planning Director for Corporate Information Systems, Comptroller International, Comptroller Corporate Staff Functions. During the later part of his career, George was the Director of Human Resources for Global Finance at DuPont. He retired in 1992.

After retiring he became an advocate for the local art community and an active volunteer at the Chester County Art Association and the Howard Pyle Studio. He was a professional framer and derived great enjoyment framing all of Doris’ work. During his retirement George and Doris traveled extensively and enjoyed visiting many foreign countries. However, many of their favorite vacations were spent on the coast of Maine, where Doris created many of her beautiful paintings, and George helped keep the lobster industry viable.

George continued to share his leadership skills into his 90s serving as Treasurer of the Radley Run homeowners association. He was loved by all and had a unique ability to bring people together to form lasting friendships. This was most recently evident at Two Birds restaurant in West Chester, PA where he routinely held court at the community table.

If desired, and in keeping with George’s and Doris’ love of the arts, memorial donations may be made in George B. Glackin, Jr. 's memory to the Howard Pyle Studio, 1305 N Franklin St, Wilmington, DE 19806.

A graveside service for family and friends is planned on Tuesday, February 25th, at 10:00am, at the Bradford Cemetery, 521 Northbrook Rd, West Chester, PA 19382.
