Elizabeth A. O'Neill

It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth (Betty) O’Neill announce her passing on May 17, 2023 at age 85.  She was born and raised at the beach in Toms River, NJ.  Upon her graduation from Georgian Court College, she moved to New York City, where she met her future husband, Donald F. O’Neill.  Following stays in Toronto, Canada and Plainfield, NJ, the happy couple moved to West Chester, PA.

Betty was an amazing wife and mother, raising 3 children, while also working for many years for West Chester Area School District supporting Human Resources.  She was active in Girl Scouts, local politics, many charitable causes, as well as supporting her children’s various endeavors.

She and her husband were active members of St. Agnes and later, St. Maximillian Kolbe parishes.  She enjoyed spending time at the beach, movies, reading and time with her many friends and family.

Betty joined the Simpson Meadows community in Downingtown, PA in 2014.   She enjoyed her time there and was active in the Resident Council and Meadow Larks singing group.

In addition to her beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Ryan and John R. Masters, her brother, John R. Masters and her daughter, Sharon O. Finnegan.  She is survived by her daughter, Lisa A. Preskenis (Richard J. Preskenis), son, Matthew F. O’Neill (Jane M. O’Neill) and her grandchildren – Thomas J. Finnegan IV (Kimberly Turner Finnegan), Liam P. O’Neill, Kate E. O’Neill and Ryan T. O’Neill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to any animal-related charity in Betty’s honor.  She was a lifelong animal lover.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 9:45 am - 10:45 am at St. Joseph Church 322 Manor Ave. Downingtown, PA 19335, followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 am.

Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery 1050 Pottstown Pike, West Chester, PA 19380.
