Elizabeth Kalmbach, 100 years young, passed away peacefully on Friday May 15, 2020 at White Horse Village, Newtown Square, PA.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles F. Kalmbach Sr., and her grandson Eliot Kalmbach.
Born September 29, 1919 in Elizabeth, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Henry Uhl and the late Mary Schiller Uhl.
She graduated from schools in Elizabeth, New Jersey and Pratt Business School in New York, and worked as an executive secretary during World War II. She met her husband when he was Best Man and she was Maid of Honor at her brother’s wedding during the war. They married in 1946 after Charles’ discharge from active duty in the Army. They resided in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Fort Edward, New York, and Lansdowne before moving to Willistown Township.
During their 61 years of marriage they raised three children, Charles F. Kalmbach, Jr (Susan) of Princeton, NJ, Charlene Glickman (Ian) of Iowa City, IA, and John Kalmbach (Cecilia) of Downingtown.
Elizabeth volunteered in Scouts and her children’s schools, worked as a tour developer in Lansdowne, and joined with her husband in Historic Sugartown’s initial fundraising and as a supporter of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Elizabeth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in West Chester, PA and Radnor Hunt.
She enjoyed world travel and cruises with her husband, visiting family and friends abroad and in the US, and attending Philadelphia Orchestra concerts and theater in Philadelphia and New York. She was a caring and gracious daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, and loved family celebrations, dancing, and picnics at the Radnor Races with her friends. She celebrated her 100th birthday on September 29, 2019 at a private party at Radnor Hunt.
In addition to her sons and daughter she is survived and greatly missed by six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two nephews and a niece.
Services and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to the White Horse Village Endowment Fund or the First Presbyterian Church of West Chester.
