Eleanor L. McCahon, “Ellie”, 86, of West Chester, PA passed away Thursday October 16, 2025, at St. Martha Manor in Downingtown, PA. She was a long-time resident of Chester Springs, PA.
She was the wife of the late James V. McCahon, Jr.
Born January 24, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late John D. Lucey and the late Eleanor Gallagher Lucey.
Ellie grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Notre Dame Academy, Rittenhouse Square. She earned a medical technician degree from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
She worked as a homemaker, raising five children. She was the ultimate transportation machine well before Uber was a thought, shuttling her children between music lessons, sports practices & games, and school activities. If there was a record for a mother making the most sandwiches for her children’s school lunches, she would have it. An expert on etiquette, Ellie would never pass up a teaching moment for her children and their friends.
Ellie was an avid gardener, artist, and enthusiast of the arts and Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies and Eagles. She also enjoyed volunteering her time at the Chester Springs Library, the West Pikeland Township election polls, and the West Goshen Fair. From dog training classes to horticultural classes at Longwood Gardens, Ellie was constantly honing her skills.
Family and faith were most important to Ellie. She would do anything to attend one of her grandchildren’s events or graduations. Spending time with family, listening to Jack’s Backyard on the radio, watching a good mystery on PBS, and working on New York Times crossword puzzles are what brought her the most joy.
Ellie is survived by her children, Ellen M. Eline (Bob), James V. McCahon, III (Christine), Patricia R. McCahon, Brendan P. McCahon (Cindy), and Brian T. McCahon (Sarah), grandchildren Veronica, Owen, Sean, Isla, Reese, Maggie, and Graceanne, sister Mary Ann Lucey, and many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Beatus T. Lucey O.S.B., and John D. Lucey Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 11:00 am - 11:45 am at SS. Philip & James Church: 723 E. Lincoln Hwy., Exton, PA 19341, followed by her Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm.
Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, 1050 Pottstown Pike, West Chester PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and/or Breakthrough T1D.
