Obituary

Edward James Kammerer, known affectionately as James or Jim to his friends and family, was called home by the Lord on December 17, 2025, at the age of 83.

Jim was born on December 7, 1942, in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, where he spent his early years raised by his parents, Edward and Dorothy Kammerer, alongside his siblings Connie, Suzanne, and Bill.

Most of James’s life was rooted in the West Chester, Pennsylvania community, which he proudly called home.

James was nurtured in faith and ethics through his Catholic upbringing. This strong foundation guided him throughout his life and shaped the way he treated others, with compassion, humility, and generosity.

James lived by the words of St. Francis of Assisi, “For it is in giving that we receive,” a philosophy that was evident not only in what he said, but in how he lived each day. He was deeply dedicated to caring for others, always willing to lend a helping hand, offer quiet support, or step in wherever he was needed. His generosity extended beyond his immediate circle, as he faithfully supported charitable causes close to his heart, always giving without expectation.

A devoted husband, James shared a profound and enduring love with his late wife, Linda Kammerer, a love marked by deep companionship, laughter, and understanding. Their marriage was a remarkable partnership, the kind of love many search for but few are blessed to experience. Even after her passing, Linda remained the center of James’s heart, her presence felt in his words, his memories, and the way he lived his life. He was a proud and loving father to his daughter, Terri Kammerer Green, and son-in-law, Kevin R. Green, and a devoted Pop-Pop to his beloved grandchildren Alexa, Madison, Griffin, and Logan, who brought immeasurable joy to his life.

In 1976, James co-founded a construction business with his lifelong friend and business partner, Bill Freas. A master craftsman skilled in woodworking, jewelry making, and construction, James took great pride in his work. Through nearly five decades of partnership, approaching what would have been a 50-year milestone in 2026, he built not only lasting structures, but enduring relationships grounded in integrity, excellence, and trust.

James lived life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a genuine sense of wonder. An avid hunter, he found peace and reflection in nature and God’s creation. He was also a passionate traveler and lifelong learner who was delighted in exploring new places, cultures, and history. From a safari in Africa to the turquoise waters of Tahiti, shared with his beloved Linda, his travels were marked by adventure, appreciation, and storytelling. James embraced each journey with optimism and joy, always eager to share his experiences and the lessons they brought.

James was a beacon of kindness, optimism, and love. He uplifted those around him with his steady presence, tireless work ethic, and genuine compassion. His life was a testament to the power of faith, the strength of family bonds, and the profound impact of giving to others.

As we bid farewell to James, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy of love that will endure. Though his absence leaves a profound void, his spirit continues to guide and inspire. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” James succeeded immeasurably.

To honor James’ life, relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at SS. Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA 19382, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be private.

In honor of Jim, family and friends attending the services are encouraged to bring a photograph to share a special memory and add to the memory boards. Please write your name, email address and a brief note about the photo on the back.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in his name to The Care Center Foundation in West Chester PA. Their ultimate objective is to derive joy and contentment not from what we receive but what we give and the positive impact we have on the lives of others. Starting December 2026 family and friends of Jim will gather annually in his honor to an event to spread kindness and pay it forward through The Care Center Foundation.
