E. Sandra Trama, 87 of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 3, 2025 at her home in West Chester, surrounded by her three children.
She was the wife of the late John Joseph Trama.
Born October 5, 1937 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Seymour Yannis and the late Mollie Roseman.
Sandra grew up in Miami FL, before moving to New York City and eventually East Stroudsburg, PA. As a youngster in East Stroudsburg, she worked in the family bakery and drove their delivery truck bringing baked goods to businesses throughout the Poconos. She later attended East Stroudsburg studying Elementary Education but left after 2 ½ years with her Mrs. Degree. (Translation: Marriage)
She began her career as a kindergarten teacher at St. Katherine of Siena in Wayne, PA, right down the street from where her son attended kindergarten. When his morning classes were completed, he would walk down the street and attend her afternoon kindergarten class as well. Her family then moved to West Chester where her two daughters were added to the team. After taking some time to raise them to school age, they all went back to school together at Fern Hill Elementary School, Sandy as an aide and her daughters as students. Her next and final move was to Chester County Library where she worked for and became a fixture there for 26 impactful years in a variety of leadership roles. She cherished interacting with the patrons there who cherished her as well.
Sandra would do so much for others, whether it be sending large amounts of supplies to Native American reservations in need, baking for others, taking in her husband’s students who were experiencing family crises and needed a safe place to stay, watching her grandchildren at the end of their school day, and hosting practically all the holidays in stellar and tasty fashion. She even twice hosted her son’s 6th grade students in her home who had come up from Virginia for a three-day field trip to Philadelphia including making breakfast and dinner for them each day. She had a great ability to connect to people in a meaningful way and would just make everyone who crossed paths with her feel safe, cared for, and listened to.
She is survived by her son, Mark (Joan) Trama, daughter, Laura (Harry Styer) Trama, daughter and caretaker extraordinaire, Kim Trama, grandchildren, Scott, Luke, Zachary, Joseph, Daniel and Sophia, great-dog, Mico, and great-grandchild, Cameron.
She was preceded in death by brother, Allan Hecht, and sister, Trudy Hoo.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service at Beth Chaim Reform Congregation 389 Conestoga Road Malvern PA. on Monday, June 16, 2025. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 and the service will start at 11:00 with a luncheon to follow.
Interment will take place in the future at Philadelphia Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the World Central Kitchen. We felt this would respect her amazing cooking and baking abilities as well as her desire to make sure that we are all taken care of.
