Dorothy R. George

Dorothy R. George, 93, of West Chester, PA died Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Chester County Hospital in West Chester.

She was the wife of the late Joseph T. George Jr, sharing 44 years of marriage.

Born in 1927 in Coatesville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Mary Rayzek.

For over 45 years, Dot worked in the telecommunications industry and retired as a Chief Operator at AT&T.  After retiring, she worked at the Chester County Hospital's gift shop.  She was not one to let the grass grow under her feet, dropping everything to go anywhere with her daughters or driving cross-country multiple times.  In her younger days, she loved to dance.  Her name changed to Nanny when she became a grandmother, and she was an ideal grandmother who not only spoiled her grandkids but also inspired, encouraged, and comforted them.  "Everything happens for a reason," she would say.  She made the best French toast.

As she got older, she enjoyed watching the Phillies and golf and playing Pinochle with The Girls.  She took great pleasure in playing 500 Rummy, particularly winning against her son-in-law, but she was even more delighted to watch his reactions on the rare occasions when he bested her.  She was always in awe of the fact that she was a great-grandmother and would never fail to "let those kiddies know" she loved them dearly.  Her favorite thing to do was simply spend time with her family.  She would say how lucky she was to have such a wonderful family, but with her as the matriarch, they were the lucky ones.

Her daughters Patricia George and Terry Webber, son-in-law John Webber, grandchildren Danielle Jones and Christopher (C.J.) Jones, and great-grandchildren Tyler and Samantha survive her and miss her terribly.  They will continue to tell the stories and Nanny-isms that always made her laugh.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation on Saturday, January 23, 2021 from 9:30 am - 10:15 am at the St. Agnes Church, 233 W. Gay St. West Chester, PA 19380, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 am.  Interment will be private.
