Obituary

Dorothy Wallace Cann of West Chester died on September 20th, 2024 at the age of 108.  She was the wife of Harry E. Cann Jr. who died on July 22nd, 2000.  They lived for 61 years in the home they built in Marshalton.

Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of Howard J. and Evelyn M. Wallace. Her sister, Virginia W. Drake, her nephew, Kenneth Drake and her niece, Heather Drake Gallant, preceded her in death.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Holy Trinity in West Chester, and a graduate of West Chester High School and the West Chester State Teachers College, class of 1937.  She taught tenth grade at Lower Southhampton, PA, prior to her marriage.  During World War II she taught First Aid for Women at the West Chester High School.  She was active in Girl Scouts and taught Sunday School classes.

She was a President of the Junior New Century Club of West Chester, and she and her husband were lifelong members of the West Chester Golf and Country Club, and also belonged to the Palm Aire Golf and Country Club of Sarasota, Florida.

Dorothy played many sports, and enjoyed music, theater, reading, gardening, bird watching and kept swimming until she was 95.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Harry E. Cann III, and Theodore W. Cann, three grandsons - Harry E. Cann IV (Socorro), Matthew P. Cann (Stephanie) and Jonathan V. Cann, one granddaughter, Meredith V. Cann, and five great grandchildren.

Services will be private, as per her wishes.
