Doris A. “Wootsie” Dougherty of Exton, PA passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025 at Simpson Meadows in Downingtown at the age of 92 after living a long, wonderful life.

Wootsie was born on July 5, 1933 and was the wife of the late Hugh R. Dougherty.  She was the daughter of the late James Vincent and Lula Mathews Vincent.

She is survived by her daughters Carrie Derro of Downingtown, PA, Mary Beth German of Exton, PA, Brenda Evans(Mitchell) of Leesburg, VA and Colleen Hurley(Sean) of Romansville, PA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her son Daniel J. Dougherty, her granddaughter Emma Hurley, her son-in-law Michael “Mickey” Derro, her sisters, Edna Cellini and Mary Kuchma.  Also by her many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, who she loved dearly.

Wootsie was born and spent her childhood in Chester, PA.  She was a graduate of Chester High School.  After marrying Hugh she lived in Aston, PA and later moved to White Bear Lake, MN where she claimed to have walked on water (the lake was frozen). She later returned to her home state of Pennsylvania where she lived for the last 47 years in Exton, PA until her death.

Wootsie was an active member of SS Philip and James Parish where she serviced as a Eucharistic Minister.  She also participated in many other church activities over the years.

Wootsie enjoyed a long career at Waterloo Gardens as their “beloved” Payroll Administator.  In their words “Doris was known to get things done and make it work”

Her great passion outside of her family was the Philadelphia Phillies, she very rarely missed a game. She also loved the shore, especially Sea Isle City.  Walks on the Sea Isle beach was one of her favorite things. Wootsie also loved Villanova basketball.
