Donna C. Wetzel

Donna Christine Wetzel, age 81, of West Chester, PA, returned to heaven on Saturday, June 28, 2025, surrounded by love.

Born on November 7, 1943, in Philadelphia, PA, Donna was the daughter of the late William Wiggins, Jr. and the late Catherine R. Wiggins. She is survived by her beloved husband, John; her children, Jonathan, Ian, and Kate; her cherished grandchildren, Poseidon and Thalia; her brother, William Wiggins III; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Donna grew up in Cheltenham, PA, and was a proud graduate of Mount St. Joseph’s Academy, Marywood College, and the University of Pennsylvania. She devoted her life to helping children as a pediatric physical therapist, beginning her career at Children’s National and later leading the department at the Children’s Heart Hospital of Philadelphia. She continued her work by opening her own private practice, warmly welcoming children and their families into her home. Even in retirement, Donna remained deeply committed to her work through the Charp Wiggins Fund at the Philadelphia Community Foundation, supporting technological accessibility programs at higher education institutions.

Above all, Donna was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She supported her family in countless ways—from cheering at every game to crafting handmade Halloween costumes, creating delicious meals, planting vibrant gardens, and hosting unforgettable celebrations. Her warmth and generosity knew no bounds, and she welcomed everyone into her home with open arms and an open heart.

Donna found great joy in spending summers in Rangeley, Maine, traveling the world, and spending time with those she loved. She lived with cancer for 22 years, facing every challenge with strength, grace, and a steadfast focus on living. She was surrounded throughout by the unwavering support of her medical team, family, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Donna’s life at her visitation on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM at SS. Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA 19382. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
