David Stevenson Obituary

David L. Stevenson, 69, of West Chester, PA passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at Chester County Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

He was the husband of Sandra D. Stevenson (nee DiNicola). Married in 1971, they celebrated 50 years of marriage together this past February.

Born July 28, 1952 in West Chester, PA, he was the son of the late John S. Stevenson and the late Joan S. Nekervis.

Dave grew up in West Chester and was a graduate of West Chester Henderson High School.

Dave worked as a driver for UPS with over 44 years of service.  He served as shop steward for 25 years and, while amassing 37 years of safe driving, was awarded membership in the exclusive Circle of Honor for those with exemplary driving records. He cherished the many lifelong friendships he built with his coworkers and customers and was widely loved for his good humor and personal approach with everyone he came in contact with.

He was a member of the Baptist Church of West Chester where he served in many capacities. He particularly loved the many years he assisted with the church youth group, mentoring youth and participating in many trips and work camps. He was also a member of the choir and served as a church deacon. Dave was also a member of Fame Fire Company for many years and was an active volunteer firefighter in his younger days. He was also a member and supporter of Longwood Gardens and enjoyed many trips there with Sandy through the years.

He loved being with people and will be remembered most for his sense of humor and laughter. He had many favorite “Pop-Pop sayings” that he loved to share with his grandchildren. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family and loved going to his grandchildren’s sporting events and going to the shore every summer with his wife, children and grandchildren and he often said his children & grandchildren were his pride and joy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, David K. Stevenson of Exton and daughter Carrie Gillespie (nee Stevenson) and her husband Robert of Spring Mills, PA; 7 grandchildren, Nathaniel, Rebekah and Nicholas Gillespie and Jack, Ryan, William and Cole Stevenson. He is also survived by two siblings, John S. Stevenson, of Abilene TX and Lynne Hammans, of Lusby MD along with nieces and a nephew.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Karen S Stevenson.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Thursday October 7, 2021 from 9:00 am to 10:45 am followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 am at Baptist Church of West Chester, 221 South High Street, West Chester, PA 19382.
