David Carpenter Patten, 89 of West Chester, PA passed away Thursday March 26, 2026 in West Chester, PA
Born March 21, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the fourth child of the late William S. Patten and the late Katherine C.Patten.
He was the husband of Connie Pryor Patten for over 60 years. In addition to his wife, David is survived by his sons, Christopher P. Patten (Alison), D. Andrew Patten and Jason C. Patten as well as 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Linda Fenton of Florida and Martha Lodge of North Carolina. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his big brother William Carpenter Patten, who passed just 18 days before him.
David grew up in West Chester and graduated from West Chester High School class of 1955 where he played on the football and baseball teams. Following graduation, he matriculated and graduated from Dartmouth College and The Law School of the University of Pennsylvania.
He worked a practicing Attorney in West Chester for over 55 years, two of which were as Assistant District Attorney for Chester County. Dave also had a long association with Pennsbury Township as their solicitor for 39 years. He also had many friends and clients in the Amish community due to his Farm Credit work, and was happiest when the lima beans were in season.
His memberships included; the West Chester Elks and Masonic lodges, the West Chester United Methodist Church, and the Pennsylvania and Chester County Bar Associations.
Dave completed his military obligation as a reservist in the United States Marine Corps, serving for 6 years
His favorite pastimes included spending time at the family vacation home in Ocean City, New Jersey with family and friends. He also enjoyed his collection of jazz and classical recordings, and was an avid reader of history and biography books. Dave also loved watching the Philadelphia sports teams, and his knowledge of long ago Phillies lineups was legendary.
Family and friends are invited to his graveside service, Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 11:00 am Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery 1235 Birmingham Road West Chester PA 19382. Following the graveside service there will be luncheon at West Chester Golf and Country club at 12 noon.
