Daniel Moran Obituary

Daniel J. Moran, Jr., 90 of West Chester went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2022 at 3:05 PM at the Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse in Philadelphia in a peaceful manner.

Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late Daniel Moran, Sr. and the late Anna Dixon Moran.

He was the loving husband to the late Antoinette “Toni” Clementi Moran, who were married on April 4, 1959 and together for 57 years.

Dan graduated from Henderson High School, where he played football for two years and later played as a semi professional football player for the Kennett Square Crusaders for two years.

He was a life member of Saint Agnes Roman Catholic Church, where he was baptized, received his sacraments, and was married.

Dan was employed as a meat cutter for 45 years at the A & P Supermarket, later known as Super Fresh, in West Chester and also in other various Pennsylvania locations.

He served three years in the Marine Corps and was on a five ship Mediterranean Tour as an air craft mechanic.

Dan was a volunteer fireman and life member of Fame Fire Company. He was also a volunteer ambulance driver in the mid-1950’s with the Good Fellowship Ambulance Company when it started from their location at the Horse and Hound Bar in West Chester. He was a member of the Monsignor Schuyler Knights of Columbus Council #1333 and a 4thDegree Knight of the Chester County Assembly #1873.

He lived in his present home for 60 years and after retirement he and his wife attended daily mass at Saint Agnes and participated in the Rosary and Mercy Chaplet. He also drove automobiles for Toyota to New York and enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and fig tree.

Dan enjoyed working puzzles in the local newspaper and watching Phillies baseball games.

He and his wife enjoyed feeding family and friends for the holidays for many years. They also enjoy traveling in the US and overseas. They visited Toni’s relatives in Italy as well as the Holy Land with the Kolby Club in 1996. Dan and Toni renewed their marriage vows at Cana, carried the cross along the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem and re-baptized in the Jordan river.

He survived by his brother Raymond Moran, Sr. and his wife Mary, nephews; John Moran, Raymond Moran Jr. and wife Rebecca who were so very helpful to his needs. He is also survived by nieces and nephews from Wisconsin and his sister-in-law Colonel Mary Clemente, USAF Ret. who provided loving care from West Chester.

In addition to his parents and wife he was pre-deceased by his brother Robert Moran and wife Dorothy and a nephew Dennis Moran.

Despite his illness Dan was most faithful in reciting his morning and evening prayers. He received excellent care from Penn Medicine Home Care for one year as well as Penn Hospice Care for the past three months. His family is grateful to the Bernard Street neighbors and friends who readily responded to his needs. Thanks, are also extended to Deacon Thomas Shurer from Saint Agnes Church, who visited Dan weekly at his home and to Nina and Frank Giunta for their kindness and help.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Tuesday August 2, 2022 from 10-10:45am at the St. Agnes Church 233 West Gay St. West Chester, PA 19380, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11am. Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery.
