Obituary

Charles (Chuck) Mark Maston, age 70, of Kennett Square, PA, died on Sunday, August 10, 2025. His life was nothing short of extraordinary, and he will be remembered not for how he left us, but for how fully he lived.

Born November 16, 1954, in Johnson City, New York, Chuck was the son of the late Paul Mark Maston and the late Georgeanne (Jan) Reed Gilpin. When the family settled in Pennsylvania, he planted deep roots in West Chester, where he attended North Middle School (now E.N. Peirce) and B. Reed Henderson High School.

Chuck was larger than life and truly one of a kind. He lit up every room he walked into with his eccentric charm and quick wit. His warmth was genuine, effortless, and magnetic, making you feel instantly welcome in his presence.

An entrepreneur, Chuck owned and operated two West Chester businesses starting at age 19: Turks Head Records and Don’t Worry Be Happy boutique. He later co-founded ConserVent, a distributor of the Savit Energy Stack Vent. However, his biggest success was his distinguished, multi-award-winning sales career with Tri-State Alarm, which laid the foundation for his co-founding of Connect America, a medical alert company. He led the company’s sales strategy and helped fuel its groundbreaking success. Together with his partners, Chuck helped transform the medical alert industry, making a profound impact on countless lives.

Though entrepreneurship was his calling, music was his lifeblood. A self-taught guitarist with remarkable soul and skill, Chuck played as if the instrument were an appendage. When a tune sparked in his mind, he’d slip into what could only be described as a trance. A passionate fisherman and proud birdwatcher, Chuck loved casting a line wherever he could, spotting local wildlife, and observing the rhythms of nature. He found peace driving through the winding roads of Chester County and felt most alive when he was riding his Harley-Davidson.

Above all, Chuck loved his family deeply, fiercely, and more than anything else on this earth. His devotion was unwavering, and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Chuck is survived by his only child, his daughter Leah Mercedes Ahrens (Maston); her children, granddaughters Corinne Maston Ahrens and Kendall Nicole Ahrens, and grandson Owen Charles Kennedy; and his brother, David William Maston (Carol Lynn Maston). He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Stephen Reed Maston and Gary Wayne Maston.

Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to Chuck’s Visitation on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 9:00 am - 10:45 am at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. (410 North Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380); followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by making someone laugh, holding someone’s hand, taking a long drive, or playing a song  — just as Chuck would have wanted.

Contributions may be made to Brandywine Red Clay Alliance to promote protection of natural resources in the Brandywine and Red Clay Watersheds, including Pocopson Creek, where Chuck loved to fish with his friends and family, especially his grandson Owen.
