Charles David Gangemi, 89 of West Chester, PA died Tuesday March 13, 2018 at Wellington Court.
Born December 22, 1928, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Charles S. Gangemi and Margherita Griese Gangemi.
Charles was a pianist and Professor of Music at West Chester University from 1961-1992.
He was a graduate of South Philadelphia High School. He received his Bachelor and Masters Degrees in music from the University of Pennsylvania where he studied with composers Con-stant Vauclain and George Rochberg. He studied piano with Eduard Steuermann, Adele Marcus, and William Masselos.
Charles started his teaching career at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music before teaching at West Chester University where he served on the Dean’s Advisory Board and retired as Professor Emeritus in the School of Music. Charles enjoyed cooking, traveling during summers to Florence, Italy, Southern California to visit his sister Sarah and always being around good friends and family.
He is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph Gangemi, Nicholas Gangemi, and sister Sarah Rudolph.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11:00AM in the Ballroom at the West Chester University Foundation Building, 202 Carter Dr. West Chester, PA 19382.
Interment will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
