Catherine Ann Weaver

Catherine Ann Weaver, 76 of Landenberg, PA passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, DE, under the care of ChristianaCare-AccentCare hospice.

She was the wife of George E. Weaver, Jr., who she shared just shy of 56 years of marriage.

Born November 18, 1946 in Jackson Heights, NY, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Dooner and the late Rosetta Spencer Dooner.

Cathy grew up in Queens, NY and graduated from Saint Vincent Ferrer High School, New York City, NY in 1964. She went to college years later, and was a very proud graduate of Wilmington College, with a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management and was a member of the Honor Society, graduating Sigma Cum Laude.

She worked for the Christiana Care Health System for 38 years, starting out as a Unit Clerk, working her way up as a Staff Assistant in Human Resources, Research and Grant Administration, Research Finance, and ultimately up to an Executive Assistant for the Vice President of Academic Affairs, where she assisted all the incoming Residents and Fellows; becoming affectionately known as their “hospital mom.”

Catherine enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. They brought her endless hugs, love and smiles. She enjoyed game nights with the family and wine tasting with her husband. Cathy loved to travel with George and they were able to see many amazing places in their retirements. The recently formed neighborhood book club brought her great joy.

In her younger years, she enjoyed needlepoint and cross stitch, and spent many years with The Creative Circle needlework company. In addition to completing many of their needlepoint and cross stitch designs, she also traveled to craft shows to sell their products. She was a loyal Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes player, and never gave up hope that one day they would come knocking on her front door. More recently, she transitioned to Powerball and again, never gave up hope that one day they would pick her numbers.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Julianne Weaver (Valerie), daughter, Diane Massey (Scott), daughter, Krista Kaufman (Edgar), son, Kevin Weaver (Brandy); grandchildren, Shaun Weaver, Benjamin Weaver, Edgar Kaufman, Robert Kaufman, Elena Kaufman, Cecilia Weaver, and Cora Weaver; brother, Thomas Dooner, brother, Michael W. Dooner, sister, Barbara Brzowski, brother, Brian C. Dooner; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 North Church Street West Chester, PA 19380; followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 am.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kennett Area Community Service (Food Bank); St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, and/or Salvation Army.
