Boyd Corson Davis, Jr.

Boyd C. Davis Jr., West Chester businessman and member of the prominent Davis family, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022, at the age of 81, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Boyd—known as “Tidge” to those closest to him—was born the eldest son of Nelda (née Wynn) and Boyd Davis Sr. on November 17, 1940, at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. A proud graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, Boyd served in the Pennsylvania National Guard in his youth before following in the family business as a trustee of the Moulton H. Davis Estate Oil Company, which his father founded in 1955 as an offshoot of the family’s existing lumber business established in 1909. He rose to local prominence as co-owner of the company and chairman of the board, eventually serving a term on the West Chester Borough Council. He was a lifelong resident of West Chester, PA. 

Boyd held a special fondness for his family’s beach house in Manasquan, NJ, as well as Jimmy John’s Pipin’ Hot Sandwiches on 202, and the cherry crumb pie from Yori’s Bakery on Church Street in West Chester. An avid storyteller, Boyd was quick to recount the history of any part of West Chester, telling any who would listen who used to live where and what store used to be in each building. 

Though Boyd never married nor had children, he cherished his relationship with his parents prior to his father’s death in 2007 and his mother’s in 2010. He also enjoyed many close friendships, both those spanning over 50 years and those that came in the final years of his life. Most importantly, he had a relationship with Jesus Christ, whom he came to know as his Savior and Lord, bringing him forgiveness of his sins and the promise of eternal life. Through the blood of Jesus, he also gained a family in the fellow members of Christ Church West Chester (the local church he was a proud member of for the last six years), who loved him to the very end of his life. Though they will miss him dearly, they celebrate the end of his earthly pain and the beginning of his eternal heavenly joy. 

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation from 10 AM – 10:45 AM on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Christ Church West Chester, 200 S. Church St., West Chester, PA 19380 followed by his funeral service at 11 AM.

Interment will be at Bradford Cemetery. All are welcome.
