Barbara C. Finegan, 91, of West Chester, PA passed away Friday July 3, 2026, at Barclay Friends in West Chester.
She was the wife of the late Eugene E. Finegan.
Born February 7, 1935, in West Chester, PA, she was the daughter of the late Paul Carnathan and the late Nora Kerr Carnathan. Although she was an only child, she was raised with her uncle Fred Carnathan, who was like a brother to her.
Barbara grew up in West Chester and graduated from St. Agnes High School, Immaculata University and Drexel University.
She worked as librarian at the Wilmington Public Library. She also worked as a librarian at the St. Agnes School Library and Bishop Shanahan High School Library before becoming a full-time homemaker and devoted caretaker to her son, Paul.
Barbara was a life member of St. Agnes Church. She was also a member of West Chester Senior Center and volunteered for the West Chester Senior Center, the ARC of Chester County and St. Agnes Religious Shoppe.
She enjoyed travel, concerts, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her children, Eleanor Ryan, Julie Finegan, and Paul Finegan; her cousins Dale Carnathan and Patrick Carnathan and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years.
The family would like to thank the staff at Barclay Friends and Willow Tree Hospice for the loving care, kindness, and companionship that you provided to Barbara while she was in your care.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass on Friday July 10, 2026 at 11am. at St. Agnes Church 233 West Gay Street West Chester. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery West Chester, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Agnes Church or the ARC of Chester County.
