Barbara Fienberg Swartz, 78, of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, formerly of Albany, New York, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at Paoli Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on March 14, 1946, in Albany, New York, Barbara moved to Brooklyn at the age of two, beginning a life rich with love, adventure, and resilience. After graduating from Erasmus Hall High School and earning a degree from Northwestern University, she embarked on her adult journey in Manhattan, where she thrived in the vibrancy of the city.
Barbara later returned to Albany to start a family, embracing her role as a devoted mother. She balanced her dedication to family with a professional career that spanned real estate and her family's storied furniture business, Standard Furniture, established by her great-grandfather in 1901. Her warmth, work ethic, and unwavering determination left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her.
An athlete in her youth and an avid tennis enthusiast throughout her life, Barbara’s competitive spirit was matched by her deep affection for animals, particularly the cats and dogs that brought joy to her life.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Chester Fienberg and Marcia Kartzman, her nephew, Shawn Blumenfeld, and her beloved husband, Harold Swartz, with whom she shared 13 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughters, Shari Stillman-Corbitt (Peter) of Oak Park, California, and Andrea Stillman Craven (Scott) of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren, Elliott and Emma Corbitt; her three sisters, Linda Fienberg (Jeffrey Bauman), JoAnn Popko (Ron), and Leslie Fienberg (Linda), and her nephew, Lane Blumenfeld.
In her later years, Barbara found a welcoming and supportive home at the Terrace at Beverwyck in Slingerlands, New York, where she was cared for with kindness and compassion. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Beverwyck community for their unwavering care and love over the past 13 years.
Barbara’s life was a testament to strength, love, and the power of family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.
Services and interment will be private.
