Barbara D. Lucas, 83 of West Chester, PA passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Brandywine Hall Care Center in West Chester.
She was the beloved wife of the late Richard "Dick" Lucas for 59 years.
Born December 17, 1937 in Brattleboro, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Dr. R. Kenneth "Doc" Dunn and the late Margurite Ariante Dunn, she was also the sister of the late Richard "Dick" Dunn.
Barb was raised in Brattleboro, Vermont and graduated from Brattleboro Union High School in 1955, where she was involved in many clubs and was a soloist in the choir. Her High School yearbook called her "one of those all-round girls, tops in sports and school". She also loved skiing in the mountains of Vermont. Barb got her BA in Arts and Sciences, majoring in English from the University of Vermont. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and graduated in 1959.
Her first job opportunity sent her to Boston, MA as a writer for Woman's Day magazine where she met the love of her life, Dick. They were married in 1961 and spent the rest of their days in West Chester, raising their three children, and enjoying their wonderful granddaughters. They loved going to Philadelphia Eagles games, spending their summers at West End Gun (Swim) Club, traveling to different beaches and going on cruises. They were avid bowlers and won numerous bowling trophies together. Barb loved to read and was a whiz at crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen L. Lucas (Mark Harms), son Brian K. Lucas (Shawna), daughter Andrea L. Lucas (David Schubel), grandchildren, Alyssa Lucas, Michelle Lucas, Fiona Harms, Isabel Harms.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 3:00pm - 3:45 pm at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home 410 N. Church St. West Chester, PA, 19380; 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com; followed by a memorial service at 4:00 pm.
Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery in West Chester, Pa. followed by a reception at Timothy's West Chester banquet Hall starting at 5:30pm, 929 S. High St, West Chester, PA 19382
