Audrey E. Mahler, 96 of West Chester, PA and formerly Havertown, PA passed away Friday September 27, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of the late Louis (Bud) R. Hodge and Robert Mahler.
Born July 2, 1928, in Philadelphia, PA she was the daughter of the late Clayton Jones and the late Elsie Hamm Jones.
Audrey grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Germantown High School. She and her first husband later moved to Havertown, PA, to raise their children.
Audrey began voice lessons at a young age, sang in her childhood church choir, and later went on to win the eisteddfod soprano solo competition in NYC, at the age of 15, winning $50. Audrey often performed with Jack Steck’s amateur hour live from Woodside Park, on WFIL. While raising her family Audrey gave voice lessons.
Audrey was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Llanerch in Havertown, and later attended Newtown Square Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Llanerch Women’s Club and PEO. Audrey had the voice of an angel and was the soloist with her Llanerch choir for over 60 years. She enjoyed singing with the Swarthmore Chorale and the Sunshine Singers, who had the opportunity to sing at the White House. She also sang with the Hershey’s Mill singers once she and her late husband moved to West Chester.
She enjoyed traveling, shooting pool, listening to books on tape, and playing card games with her great grandchildren. One of Audrey’s favorite songs to sing was Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
She is survived by her children, Debra Ford (Kevin), Linda Hodge (Dave), Stephen Hodge, extended family William Dorney (Donna), Richard Dorney (Cindy), grandchildren Brittany Pizio (Joseph), Allison Ford, Gerardo Hidalgo-Cuellar, Melisa Hidalgo-Cuellar, Donna Croff, Diane Croff, and John Kelly, great grandchildren: Sloane Pizio, and Blake Pizio, nephews Robert Watts (Robin), David Watts, Demetrius Doumenis and niece Christina Garcia (Frank).
She was preceded in death by husbands Louis (Bud) R. Hodge, Robert Mahler, and sister Helen Jane Doumenis.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at The Presbyterian Church of Llanerch, 211 Lansdowne Road Havertown, PA 19083
Interment will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens King of Prussia PA.
