Alison Louise Fanelli, 87, of Newtown Square, PA passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026, at her home in White Horse Village. She was the wife of the late Robert Francis Fanelli.
Born in June 1938 in Reading, PA, Alison was the daughter of the late Edward Martin Bard and the late Dorothy (Huey) Bard. She grew up in Reading and graduated from Wilson High School, where she was active in cheerleading, editing the school newspaper, and attending dances and balls. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from West Chester University. It was here that she met Robert “Bob” Fanelli, and the two married shortly after graduation. They loved the town of West Chester so much they decided to settle there.
Alison worked as a substitute elementary school teacher in the West Chester Area School District. After moving to New Jersey, she worked as a teacher’s aide at Riverside Elementary School in Princeton, and taught at a Catholic school in Trenton, helping students with math and reading skills. Upon returning to West Chester, she assisted Bob in launching a Home Instead Senior Care office, where she worked as a recruiter.
Alison embraced life with energy and grace. She was a lifelong yoga practitioner, an avid tennis and golf player, and loved gardening, swimming, and dancing. She also had a special love for dogs throughout her life, caring for beloved companions including Sissy, Princess, Reggie, Sammy, and her faithful final companion, Peanut. Known for her elegance and creativity, Alison had a wonderful sense of style and delighted in putting together thoughtful outfits for herself and for others. She was beautiful and remained so until her last days.
Alison and Bob developed lifelong friendships from all the places they lived: West Chester, Lawrenceville, NJ, and White Horse Village in Newtown Square. They enjoyed socializing and traveling with friends.
Alison was an active supporter of West Chester University and Chester County Hospital and participated in fundraising efforts for those institutions.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer L. Fanelli; son, Robert Edward Fanelli (Karin Morris); sister-in-law, Norma Bard of Fort Myers, FL; sister-in-law Louise (Fanelli) Milewski; brother-in-law Al Milewski; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Services and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Jazz Bridge or the charity of your choice.
