Ursula (Sue) Emerson Jordan Plummer, 90, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2019. Her five loving daughters were by her side. She was born in Burlington, VT to Hovey and Ursula Kimball Jordan on March 26, 1928.
While attending The University of Vermont, Sue met her future husband, William Plummer, when they were working as summer camp counselors. After their marriage in 1949, she moved to the Philadelphia area while Bill finished medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. Since 1952, she has resided in West Chester. Sue has always been proud of her Vermont roots and with her family in tow, summer vacations were always spent in her beloved state enjoying the beauty of the Green Mountains, hiking and exploring the countryside.
Sue was a homemaker, mother and grandmother extraordinaire. Her generosity of spirit and sharp wit will be missed by all. She imparted many words of wisdom to her daughters over the years such as, “It’s not what you say, but how you say it,” and “If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” As her family matured and grew, with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes, she would lovingly remind everyone, “I’m still the boss,” all while shaking her finger at them.
Over the course of her long life she volunteered for many area organizations. Meals on Wheels, The Women’s Exchange, Visiting Nurse Association, Chester County Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Chester County Day, and Chester County Hospital’s May Festival, where she served as Co-Chair, were among the many. She also served on the boards of The Hickman and The Barclay. Sue was a member of the West Chester Friends Meeting and Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.
She was preceded in death in 2014 by her husband of 64 years, Dr. William Plummer III. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Evans, and her brother, Fred Jordan. Sue is survived by her five daughters: Rebecca Plummer and husband Jon Ellenbogen of Penland NC; Elizabeth Plummer of West Chester; Jenifer Rice and husband Jim of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada; Robin Latta and husband Peter of West Chester; Sue Aquadro and husband Dave of Atglen; and 10 grandchildren: Alexander Ellenbogen (Allie) and Christopher Ellenbogen (Victoria); Erin and Mackenzie Rice; Becky Latta Granieri (Frank), Sarah Latta Carter (Darren), Molly Latta, and Billy Latta (Samantha); Jordan and Nate Aquadro, as well as three great grandchildren; Jameson, Charlotte, and Ava Granieri. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Harper, of Holyoke, MA.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to all her caregivers from Loving Quality Care and Neighborhood Hospice.
The family will hold a private graveside service at the Valley Friends Meeting.
