Robert Fillmore Obituary

Robert Allen Fillmore, 94, formerly of Springfield, PA passed away on September 15, 2019 at White Horse Village, Newtown Square, PA where he lived since 2001.

Born September 2, 1925 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late George Benjamin Fillmore and Naomi Allen Fillmore and brother of the late George Benjamin Fillmore, Jr.

He is predeceased by his wife of 70 years Elizabeth Davis Fillmore.

Robert "Bob" met his wife in 7th grade at Country Day School in Scranton, PA. He finished his secondary education at The Choate School in Wallingford, Connecticut.  After graduating in 1943 at the age of 17, he joined the Navy.  He served aboard the USS Sylvania, an attack cargo ship, in the Asiatic Pacific theater during WWII. After his naval service, he attended college at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1950 with a degree in English.

Bob and Betsy remained in the Philadelphia area to raise their family. A lifelong businessman, Bob retired as an officer at Philadelphia National Bank in 1987. He remained active with various volunteer activities with City Team in Chester and Broomall Presbyterian Home.  However, his favorite volunteer activity was driving the ambulance for the Springfield Ambulance Corps, as he was an experienced ambulance operator due to a brief station at Minecraft Training Center in Virginia during the War.

Known to many as the "Mayor" of White Horse Village, you may have heard him whistling down the hall before you set eyes on him. Bob remained interested in business, current events, and the Philadelphia Eagles. Like many from his generation, Bob will be remembered for his strong moral compass and duty to God, country, and family.

A loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather who is survived by his children:  Kathleen (Dennis) Mirra, Judith (Thomas) Buchanan, and Robert Allen Fillmore Jr.  In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren Nicole (Joseph) Platt, Kimberly Mirra (Brian Arthurs), Thomas (Annie) Buchanan, William (Brianna) Buchanan, Robert (Kaitlin) Buchanan and his great-grandchildren Sarah, Jacob, Ava, Benjamin, and Elizabeth.

On Saturday, September 28th, a memorial service will be held in White Horse Village Auditorium, 535 Gradyville Road, Newtown Square, PA  19073 at 10:00 AM.  Visitation will be from 9 - 10 AM. Interment will follow at Edgewood Memorial Park, 325 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills, PA.
