Mary Ellen Sanders

Mary Ellen Sanders, 101, of Pottstown, PA, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018. 

She was the wife of Col. Francis A. Sanders, Sr., Air Force retired. 

Born March 15, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth Darnell Jones and Levi Stevens Jones of Denmark, SC. 

Mary graduated from Denmark High School in 1934 and worked as a “domestic engineer” the remainder of her life. 

She enjoyed baking, gardening, bird watching, cross-stitch, and sewing, while enjoying all her family and friends she had throughout her life.  She was a devoted member of the Baptist Church of West Chester in West Chester, PA. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Beth Bowling (Tim) of Portsmouth, VA, and Susan Specht (David) of Pottstown, PA, and her son Francis Sanders, Jr. (Alice) of Normal, IL, and grandchildren Paige Mark (John) of Tulsa, OK, Terry Bowling (Melanie) of Canton, GA, Tim Bowling (Korren) of Troutman, NC, Chad Sanders (Carolyn) of Bloomington, IL, Drew Sanders of Joliet, IL, Shayne Mackey of West Chester, PA and Josh Mackey of Pottstown, PA, Jenna Campbell (Jon) of Buffalo, NY, Jacie Specht of Nashville, TN, and 15 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. 

Mary was preceded in death by her sisters Margaret Zeigler, Christine Harris, and Mildred Dyches and her brother L.S. Jones. 

Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service on Monday, August 27, 2018 1:00 pm at New Hanover United Methodist Church, 2211 Swamp Pike, Gilbertsville, PA 19525. 

Interment will be held with family at Washington’s Crossing National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Philadelphia Children’s Hospital, 3401 Civic Center Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
