Lois G. Hammett

September 10, 1939 ~ October 24, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Lois G Hammett, 78, of West Chester, passed away at home after a long battle with cancer on October 24, 2017 with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of Richard (Dick) P. Hammett, with whom she shared nearly 58 years of marriage.

Lois was born in Harrisburg, PA on Sept 10, 1939, the daughter of the late Robert Greene and Dorothy (Keagel) Greene Biggs. She graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1957, where she was a flag twirler in the marching band and was elected “Miss Congeniality” of her senior class.

Lois and Dick met at Bell of PA and they married soon after on Feb 13, 1960. As the years passed, Dick’s work took them from Harrisburg to Altoona, Atlanta, Kalamazoo, York, and finally to West Chester, where Lois was the office manager for 20 years in her husband’s firm RP Hammett & Associates.

Lois was an outstanding cook, and loved to entertain family and friends both at home and at their condo in Ocean City, NJ. Her favorite restaurants there were the Crab Trap and the Clam Bar. She was an active member of their church and served as a deacon.  She enjoyed the music programs, especially when her grandchildren were performing. During her retirement years, Lois loved getting together with family and friends, attending her grandchildren’s events, going on cruises with close friends as well as on long Florida vacations in the winter in Siesta Key and Venice.

In addition to her husband, Lois is survived by her son Ric and his wife Cyndy of Frederick, MD and their children Tyler & Cole, her son Bob and his wife Tracy of Glenmoore and their children Erin, Lauren & Tommy, her daughter Juli Robinson and her husband Brian of West Chester and their children Amanda, Corinne, Erica & Evan, brothers Bobby Greene and wife Peggy and Steven Biggs and wife Cheryl, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom she treasured.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 25 at First Presbyterian Church 130 W. Miner Street West Chester, PA 19382 with visitation at 10am and service to follow at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church, or to Willow Tree Hospice 616 East Cypress St Kennett Square, PA 19348.
