Kathleen (Kaye) Agnes Doyle Finegan of West Chester, Pennsylvania, age 95, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2019 in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she lived with her daughter, son-in-law and their family. She was the wife of the late James J. Finegan, with whom she shared almost 60 years of marriage.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Francis E. and Margaret Mahoney Doyle.
Kaye graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, in 1941 and attended Immaculata College.
During World War II, Kaye was a junior aide in the Navy League of Philadelphia and a legal secretary in Philadelphia. She was a Girl Scout leader for St. Agnes Troop #142 and also the Majority Inspector of Elections for West Goshen Township, North 2nd District. She was a member of the Junior New Century Club of West Chester.
Kaye was an active member of the West Chester Auxiliary of the Chester County Hospital for many years. She served as the Secretary of the Advisory and Raffle committees of the Chester County Hospital May Festival from 1989 to 2005. She was also a member of the Chester County Art Association, the West Chester Golf & Country Club and the West Chester Senior Center.
She belonged to several bridge clubs, one of which she founded in 1950.
She is survived by one son, James Jr., of Freeport, Maine; three daughters, Judith Niemann of Wilmington, NC, wife of Hendrix F. C. Niemann, Kathleen Sawin of Haverford, PA, wife of Dr. Henry S. Sawin, and Margaret Edwards of Haverford, PA, widow of Mark P. Edwards; six grandsons, six granddaughters, one step-granddaughter and two great-grandsons. An infant son, Paul Francis Finegan, died in 1954.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 13 at 10:00 AM at St. Agnes Church, 233 W. Gay Street, West Chester, PA.
Friends and family may call from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the church. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.
