Joan M. Caracappa Obituary

Joan M. Caracappa, 66, of West Chester, PA died Wednesday April 4, 2018 at the Chester County Hospital in West Chester.

She was the wife of Francis C. Caracappa, with whom she shared 42 years of marriage.

Born September 15, 1951 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Andy Kosley and Harriet Hohlfeld Kosley of Norristown.

Joan graduated from St. Matthews/Archbishop Kennedy High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Drexel University. After college she worked as a research biologist before teaching science for over 20 years in the Kennett Consolidated School District and Devon Preparatory School. She served for many years as a leader in the Boy Scout council.  She enjoyed travel and seeing Broadway shows.  Joan was an avid reader and magnet collector.

In addition to her husband and mother, Joan is survived by her son, Peter F. Caracappa and his wife, Mary of Albany, NY; daughter, Margaret E. Birge-Caracappa and her wife, Amy of Philadelphia, PA; and brother, Leo Kosley, who resides in Germany.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 9-10 am at St. Agnes Church, 233 W. Gay St., West Chester, PA 19380; followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 am.  Interment will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester, PA.
