Elizabeth M. Jones

Elizabeth M. Jones, 92, died Sunday, September 15, 2019 in her daughter’s home in Cochranville.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Jones; daughter Linda Lewis and husband Rob; grandson Cory; and many nieces and nephews in the Politz and Jones families.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, James Jones in 1997; her daughter, Susie, in 1961, who died at the age of 11; her brother, Joe Politz in 2000; and her sister, Mary Politz in 2014.

Born May 1, 1927 in the Bronx, NY she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Elizabeth Politz. She and Jim married in 1949 and as an Army wife, she got to visit most of the U.S. and parts of Europe, achieving her life goal of traveling. 

Her other goal was to be a good person and anyone who knew her could attest she also achieved that goal.  She became a Girl Scout in 1940. Later on, she was a GS leader for her daughters’ troops and in the 1970’s, became a Service Unit Director in Bristol. For all her life, “Girl Scout’s Honor,” was something she believed in and used to attest she was telling the truth.

After Jim retired from the Army in 1966, they settled in Bristol Township, Bucks County, PA where they lived until they moved to central Texas in 1981.  While in Texas, Liz worked in the laboratory for the Darnell Army Medical Center at Ft Hood until her retirement.  In 1999, she and Kathe returned to Pennsylvania and lived in Oxford, Chester County, to be closer to Linda and her family.  In 2014, Liz moved in with Linda and Rob, and stayed with them until her death.

In addition to traveling, Liz was an avid reader and loved playing board and card games with friends and family.  She played Scrabble often during the last 70 years.  She enjoyed feeding backyard birds and hummingbirds.

Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of her life on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 11:00 am - 11:45 am at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc., 410 North Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380, 610-696-1181; www.DellaFH.com followed by her Memorial Service at 12:00 noon at the Funeral Home.

Interment will be private.
