Anthony T. Berardi

Anthony T. Berardi, 94, of West Chester, died on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at his home.

He was the husband of the late Betty (Gincley) Berardi with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late Pietro and Modesta (Tavani) Berardi. He was preceded in death by an infant son, born in 1947, and his brothers, Henry, Benjamin, Louis and Mario.

He attended St. Agnes School and served overseas in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Tony owned, along with his brothers, P. Berardi and Sons Bakery, founded by his father in the early 1900s. After retiring from the bakery, he worked well into his 80's at Johnson Matthey & Co. in Frazer, PA. and Budd Trailer Co.

While serving in the Army, he was a member of the US Army boxing team and won several competitions. He was also a lifelong member of St. Agnes Church, The Italian Social Club, and VFW Post #106 all of West Chester.

Remaining admirably active throughout his life, his many leisure activities included playing softball, and training his German Shepherds, two of which he brought home from Germany after the war. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, bowling, family barbeques, cutting the grass, "fixing things", and spending time with his grand kids.

He was a generous man who shared his time and money, not only with his family, but anyone who needed it. A patient, kind, and humble man, he will be missed by many.

He is survived by his children, Peter, Donna, Anthony Jr. (Laurie), Michael (Kathy) and Joanne “Jo”; grandchildren, Paige, Peter, Tiffany, Nathaniel and Christopher, along with four great-grandchildren, Kendall, Amelia, Riley and MacKenzie Hall. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 9:00-10:30am at St. Agnes Church, 233 W. Gay St. West Chester, PA 19380; followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30am.
