Alma M. Forsyth of Chadds Ford
Alma Martha Saunders Forsyth passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019.
She was the widow of James M. Forsyth.
Born in Bronxville and grew up in Scarsdale, New York, she was the daughter of Harry and Hilda Saunders.
At a young age her father instilled in her a love for animals and taught her to raise and ride Standard bred horses.
After college, Alma became an Editor with Mademoiselle magazine in New York City. When she married Jim and became a Naval Air Force wife, they moved to Hawaii and later to Guam where he was stationed. Years later the family settled in Chadds Ford, PA and set roots down.
Alma was always an involved member of the community joining the PTA, becoming a Girl Scout troop leader and a member of the Church of the Advent. When her children got older Alma became a Paralegal and worked for the Chester County District Attorney where she became their Extradition Specialist.
Alma had been a member of the League of Women Voters for over 50 years and was serving on the board of the Chester County league chapter. Alma also had a love for her community and a dedication to the environment and preservation of our natural resources. She was a founding member of the Pennsbury Land Trust and was serving on their Board of Directors. Alma was also very active as an appointed Commissioner on the Brandywine Valley Scenic Byway Commission.
Alma is survived by her 3 children Leslee Ann Forsyth Antrilli, Kevin James Forsyth, Lisa Aryann Forsyth; Grandchildren Brad Forsyth and Amanda (Everly) Forsyth, Max Forsyth and Tia Forsyth; and great-grandchildren Riley and Logan Forsyth. She was sister of the late Edith (Saunders) Bena, Harry Saunders, Herbert Saunders and Frederick Saunders.
A Memorial Service will be planned for April and an announcement will be made closer to the date.
