Miriam Myers Obituary

Miriam Maguire Myers of West Chester, PA

Miriam is survived by her loving and caring husband of 63 years Col Allen G Myers III, USAF (ret), her sons VADM Allen G Myers IV, USN (ret) and MSGT David G Myers, USAF (ret), and grandchildren Elizabeth, Allen and Morgan Myers.

Born March 3, 1935 in Birmingham, AL she was the eldest daughter of the late John Maguire and Mattie Moses Maguire.

Miriam was born and raised as a southern lady in a strong Irish catholic family.  She attended Auburn University where she met & married the love of her life on August 6th, 1955.  Miriam placed her continuing education and professional aspirations on hold until her children came into adulthood.  As the head of the household and matriarch, Miriam moved with her boys 32 times.  Proudly in 1987, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from West Chester University as the oldest member of her class.

After graduating, Miriam worked locally as a Real Estate Agent and then for The Vanguard Group for over ten years in Brokerage & Charitable Endowments.

Miriam was an avid reader, painter, seamstress and most of all she loved to surround herself with family and friends.  One of her greatest pride and joys was restoring an old Victorian Era southern home in Alabama.

Miriam was an astonishing mother, grandmother, mentor and friend. Although she had more than her share of suffering over the last decade, her spirits were always high as she was surrounded by a loving and devoted husband and family.  Miriam always believed things would get better, and was an admirable and benevolent person who always put others before herself.

Miriam dedicated her life to her husband, children, family and friends.  Her life lesson to us all is the power of combining her Irish spirit with her unwavering support and genuine love.  She was the spark in every family gathering and we will all miss her as our anchor and foundation.
