Marie P. Rhoades, of West Chester formerly of West Grove,
died peacefully at Pocopson Home on February 15 at the age of 93.
She was the daughter of the late Charles X. Portocales and
Ada I. Rineer Portocales. Born in Conshohocken in 1925, she and her family later
moved to West Chester where she and her sister
helped their father establish his candy making business.
Marie graduated from West Chester High School,
class of 1943. She worked many years as an executive secretary starting with
Esco Cabinet Company of West Chester, then Oxy-Catalyst,
Inc. The company moved to Harleysville,
PA and became Met-Pro Corporation
where she retired in 1987.
Marie was an avid sports fan from the time she was 9 years
old and loved watching the Phillies, both on TV and at Connie Mack Stadium and
later Veterans Stadium. Then she became an Eagles season ticket holder and
attended games with her daughter in the 700 level at the Vet. She joined the
Flyers Fan Club and loved traveling to other cities to watch their games. Next
to sports, she also loved country music, and going many times to Sunset Park to
see the live shows.
Marie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since
1943, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary since 1945, both in West Chester.
In addition to her parents, she is pre-deceased by her
sister, Irene Rhoades, and brother, George Portocales.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy (wife of Jerry Reardon),
of Coatesville, and one granddaughter, Jennifer, of Wilmington, Delaware.

10-11a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith
