Maria O. Catanach

Maria Catanach of Leesburg, FL

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother joined the Lord on February 16, 2017 at the age of 87, after passing peacefully in Leesburg, Florida.

She is survived by her son Anthony H. Catanach Jr. (wife Shelley) of the Villages, FL, granddaughter Angela Marie Mitchell (husband Timothy) of Exton, PA, grandson Thomas Anthony Catanach (wife Janine) of West Chester, PA, and two great-grandchildren Isabel Maria Catanach and Thomas Anthony Catanach Jr.

She was preceded in death by her husband Captain Anthony H. Catanach of Santa Fe, NM.

Maria was born on September 12, 1929 in Santa Fe, NM to the prominent Ortiz Y Davis cattle ranching family. 

The oldest of five children, she enjoyed dancing and singing and often found herself in the role of young socialite.

She graduated from Loretto Heights College in Denver, Co in 1952, the same year she married her husband, Tony, a career naval officer.  As a military wife, she traveled the world, particularly enjoying her time in Rome, Italy where she met Pope John XXIII and many other foreign dignitaries.

In retirement, she followed her son to West Chester, PA in 2001 and dedicated her life to her grandchildren, a variety of charitable organizations, and her gardens. 

Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of West Chester, 130 W. Miner St., West Chester, PA 19382. 

A graveside service at Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery will follow.
