Lawrence D. McDevitt, 76 of West Chester, PA died Thursday October 5, 2017 at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia. 

He was the husband of the late Joan Johnson McDevitt.

Born June 3, 1941 in West Chester, PA he was the son of the late Hugh V. "Butch" McDevitt and the late Gladys Dawson McDevitt.

Larry was a lifetime resident of West Chester and a member of St. Agnes Church. He started his career in the newspaper business at the Daily Local News in the advertising department on May 12, 1960.  He transitioned from advertising to photography in 1970 and retired in 2011 as Chief Photographer. 

Through the years, Larry was given many awards and recognition's for his work in photography from civic, community, sports organizations, public servants, political organizations and from the Keystone Press. In September 1964, Larry was awarded the David Knipe Memorial Award which recognizes the promotion for better newspaper advertising and in 1970 received a Keystone Press Award for Spot News Pictures. He was inducted into the Ches-Mont League Hall of Fame in May 2011.

In addition to his photography he was a member of many civic organizations. A life member and past exalted ruler of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge 853, an honorary and life member of 1st West Chester Fire Company, a member of Fame Fire Company, an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police Chester County Lodge #11, a Second-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1333 and awarded Honorary Deputy Sheriff from the Chester County Sheriff's Department in August 2011. 

Above all, Larry enjoyed his time with family and friends at the Square Bar and to watch an occasional Notre Dame football game or two.

He is survived by his sons, Timothy D. McDevitt and his fiancée Anne Marie Lynch of West Chester, Kevin M. McDevitt and his wife Nadine of West Chester, PA, grandchildren, Cassandra Lynch, Paige McDevitt, Michael McDevitt, Ryan McDevitt, Kerry McDevitt, Jessica McDevitt, and a brother, Brian McDevitt of Maryland

Relatives and Friends are invited to his visitations on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 North Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380, 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com and on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 9:00 am - 10:45 am at the St. Agnes Church; 233 W. Gay St. West Chester, PA 19380; followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am St. Agnes Church.

Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery West Chester PA.
