John "Jack" Dalton Obituary

John V. (Jack) Dalton passed away peacefully on March 6 at the age of 85 surrounded by his family.

Beloved husband of Trudy, the couple was married for 57 years and had eight children: Patti Kelly, Meg Gingalewski (Mark), John (Kathy), Beth Chang (Paul), Michelle Ward (Jeff), Mark (Kathy), Maureen Hill (Steve), and Katie. He was brother to Jean Marie and Pop Pop to 17 grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Florence Dalton, his brother Robert Dalton, and his son-in-law Barry Kelly.

A resident of West Chester for nearly his entire life, Jack contributed decades of service to organizations throughout the town including the Elks, Jaycees, Exchange Club, and the West Chester Senior Center. He was also very involved with St. Agnes Church, participating as a member of the parish council and serving as an usher for over forty years.

After graduating from Malvern Prep (’50) and Villanova University (’54), Jack served in the U.S. Army from 1954–56 before embarking on a career as a realtor and appraiser.  He was an active member of the West Chester business community, most notably during the 30-plus years he operated John V. Dalton Real Estate.

A tremendous sports enthusiast, Jack was a lifelong fan of Villanova basketball and the Philadelphia Eagles in particular. Whether in West Chester or down the Jersey Shore, he loved spending time with his many friends and most of all, his family.

Services will be held Saturday, March 10th at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 233 West Gay Street, West Chester PA 19382, with family receiving from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. followed immediately by a funeral mass.

Interment will then take place at St. Agnes Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Agnes Day Room Outreach Program, 233 West Gay Street, West Chester, PA 19382, and/or the West Chester Area Senior Center, 530 East Union Street, West Chester, PA 19380.
