Helen Snyder Shaffer of West Chester.

Helen Snyder Shaffer, 93 of West Chester, PA died Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Bellingham Retirement Community in West Chester.

She was the wife of the late John Irwin Shaffer Jr.

Born July 9, 1924 in Coatesville, PA, she was the daughter of the late William P. Snyder, Jr. and the late Helena Doran Snyder.

Helen was a graduate of St. Agnes High School Class of 1942.

After graduation, she worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 2 years.  Helen then worked at the Chester County Courthouse for 34 years and retired in 1987 as Deputy Controller.  She was instrumental in the development of the Chester County Employee Retirement Plan. 

Helen was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church and served for many years as a Republican Committee woman.

She is survived by her children, Helenann S. Meenan (Anthony) and John I. Shaffer, III both of West Chester, Elizabeth E. Masurat (Kurt) of Waxhaw, NC, Robert D. Shaffer (Sherri) of Lionville and Andrea C. Wood (David) of Waxhaw, NC; 12 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren; siblings, Lenore Latterell and Charlotte Snyder both of Coatesville.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Gail Gallagher and her brother, William R. Snyder.

Relatives and Friends are invited to her visitation from 6-7:30pm on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc., 410 North Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380, 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com, and on Friday, April 27th from 10-11am at SS. Peter & Paul Church, 1325 E. Boot Rd. West Chester, PA 19380; followed by her Funeral Mass at 11AM.  

Interment will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester.
