Gertrud (Trudy) H. Cornwell

Gertrud (Trudy) H. Cornwell, of West Chester, PA, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 after a lengthy illness.  Born April 19, 1933 in Holsterhausen (now Dorsten) Germany, she was the eldest daughter of the late Heinrich and Emma Pröpper.   Moving to Scotland in 1951 to work as a nanny and as a caretaker in a long term nursing facility, Trudy emigrated to the United States in 1958.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Moses, her children John (Valerie) Cornwell of Lancaster, PA, David (Leslie) Cornwell of Sedro Wolley, WA, and Cathy (Robert) Siley of Erwinna, PA.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Chelsea Cornwell, Stephanie Rowe, Samantha Cornwell, Christopher Cornwell, and Matthew Siley, as well as her great-granddaughter Jeanette Page.  In Germany she was predeceased by her brothers Fritz and Heinz, and is survived by her brothers Erich and Günter, her sisters Ursula, Elsbeth, and Erika, and many nieces and nephews.

Always adventurous in her younger years, Trudy made many trips to Germany and Austria, often spending weeks at a time travelling through her home town and into the Alps.  She loved to read, and spent many hours tending to her flower gardens.  Trudy was a life-long homemaker, and spent many years volunteering at the Chester County Hospital both in the Emergency Room and on the floor.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chester County Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.

Services and interment will be private.
